ECCO ambassador Martin Jensen wins the Ironman 70.3 Racine in Winconsin.
“It was just one of those days where nothing could go wrong. Fastest swim of the day, personal best on both bike and run,” says Martin Jensen.
He did the run in his ECCO BIOM EVO RACER. In just his fifth competition of the year following a 2012 season marred by injury, the 29-year-old Dane recorded a career best half marathon split (1:15:16) and race time (3:47:05) en route to his first ever victory at the 70.3 distance.
“To come back to this level after my injury last year, and be in a position where my BIOM EVO RACERs can win races for me on the run, is amazing,” says Martin Jensen.
Martin Jensen showed the way out of the waters of Lake Michigan with his 24:01 swim time, which allowed a very smooth transition into the bike leg of the race.
Holding the lead for the first 10 km, he was overtaken by Andy Starykowicz (USA).
Making the decision to ride out of his comfort zone, Martin Jensen kept pace with the American for the next 40km, before the American pulled away.
Martin Jensen was 1:45 down on the American but almost 4 minutes ahead of the next group of athletes. Running in BIOM EVO RACER, the Danish athlete reduced the gap over the first 5 km to just 30 seconds and by 8 km he was leading the race.
Launched as part of the Spring/Summer 2013 collection, BIOM EVO RACER is made using the direct injection process. This highly technical manufacturing method results in a lightweight, durable, one-piece shoe with exceptional cushioning, comfort and performance characteristics.
